| Our History Potowomut Golf Club was founded in 1927 by a group of passionate golfers who envisioned a private sanctuary dedicated to the pure pursuit of the game. Designed by Walter Johnson, a disciple of renowned architect Donald Ross, the course was carved from rolling terrain near Narragansett Bay. Over the course of a century, Potowomut has remained true to its founding principles: maintain the course in championship condition, preserve the walking tradition, and foster a community of serious golfers who respect the game's traditions. The course has undergone careful restoration over the decades, always with an eye toward honoring the original vision while meeting modern championship standards. |
Our Philosophy
Golf Coming FirstEvery decision at Potowomut begins with the course itself. Careful conditioning, strategic interest, and respect for timeless design principles guide how the game is presented each day. |
The Game at It's Natural PaceWalking is part of the experience here. It encourages rhythm, sharpens decision-making, and deepens the connection between player and course—allowing the round to unfold as it was meant to. |
A Community Shaped by the GamePotowomut is built around shared rounds, friendly competition, and lasting relationships. Members play together often, learn from one another, and carry traditions forward through events, matches, and time spent together beyond the 18th hole. |
Understated by DesignThere’s no resort atmosphere here—by intention. Potowomut focuses on what matters most: a compelling golf course, well-considered facilities, and a quiet professionalism that serious golfers recognize and value. |
